A "Me Time" Retreat

Creating a day spa experience at home
personal time

Believe it or not, it is possible to get a full spa treatment for free - without leaving the comfort of your own home. Everyone deserves a little pick-me-up now and then, so pick a day that you can devote to pampering yourself and relax. All you need is some alone time for a few hours and you're ready to go!

Need an itinerary? Follow these steps to create the perfect spa day:

Put EVERYTHING on hold. That means all errands, commitments, and dates. Put someone else in charge of your to-do list for a change, so that you can fully relax and know that everything is taken care of.

Eat breakfast. If you're usually too rushed to eat breakfast in the morning, treat yourself to something healthy and delicious so that you can start your day with lots of energy. Don't worry, breakfast doesn't have to be a big ordeal. Spas are big on smoothies and they're really easy to prepare. Pop some frozen fruit and yogurt into a blender, put your smoothie in a cup, and get back in bed.

Pamper your feet. Your feet are probably one of the most under-appreciated and over-worked parts of your body, so give them some attention. Spend about half an hour soaking your feet in sea salt or Epsom salt and then use a pumice stone to massage the rough spots.

Take a nap. You've been working hard all week, so it's time to get as much rest as possible. If you don't feel like sleeping, you can still lie down. Close your eyes and concentrate on the feeling of complete relaxation by taking several cleansing, deep breaths.

Pamper your hands. It's time to give your helping hands some relaxation too! Treat yourself to an at-home manicure to give your hands the indulgence that they deserve. While your nails are drying, put on your favorite movie and let your mind wander.

Bath time. Taking a long, luxurious bath is a luxury that many of us don't have time to take. Fill your bath with salts, bubbles, and oils and make the water nice and warm. Treat your entire body with lotion and moisturizers. Sit in your tub for as long as you'd like!

If you're starting to feel guilty for taking some time for yourself, stop right there. You fold loads of laundry, wipe up lots of spills, clean your house, go to work, and do a ton of other tasks every day. Look at yourself in the mirror and say "I deserve this!" Not only will you feel more relaxed, but you'll be energized and ready to face the world when the day is done!

Thank you for the suggestions. I walked to work this morning heavy with the sense that I did everything on my list this weekend except for the last two items. Those two were about me. And it's that way every week. I am going to start right here with your perscription to take a little care of me.

A wonderful way to spend a day...
why do we always put ourselves last....this type of treatment should be scheduled just like we do dentist
apts., grocery shopping, etc.
Me Time is probably one of the best things we can do for us, our families, etc.

I created that OASIS for me at the
end of each work week. Teaching
is hard work. My sea food dinner
begin's my journey on Friday, and it ends Saturday evening at a nice healthy dinner. My family has joined in also. Thank You!

Years ago, a dear friend gave me a T-shirt with the saying, " When Mama ain't happy, ain't nobody happy". So True! We need to care for ourselves, as that love overflows and touches our special ones.
