Getting up at the crack of dawn to do anything used to sound like an act of insanity to me. The early mornings were for roosters, birds and the occasional worms. Not for me!
I was a self proclaimed night owl. My yoga practice helped me unwind after a long day. It was the sanctuary where my daily inventory flowed through me with each breath. Relaxation sank into my bones as I deepened into each pose. Yoga was the bridge from daily life into the deep corpse pose of a good night's sleep.
Then came a whole bunch of life changes from teenagers moving back in to a new job. That luxury time of doing yoga in the evenings just evaporated. To make mat time meant taking drastic measures, so I did the unthinkable. I set my alarm for 5:45am.
It only took a week to realize that doing yoga in the morning was amazing. I'd roll out of bed, plop in Wai Lana's Relaxation Workout DVD, and breathe deeply. No children, no man and even the cat was still asleep. Just me and Wia gently giving me guidance against Hawaiian ocean waves.
A good dose of poses and meditation practically cured my need for morning coffee. Each day I walk into work centered and ready to be of service to the situation. Yoga helped me go with the flow. I didn't have to be a rock in the stream. That started to make getting up easier, even fun.
