Stress is something that we all have in common. When our minds become too cluttered with stressful thoughts, our bodies suffer. Why? Worrying requires a LOT of energy. The amount of time that we spend thinking about the little annoyances and stresses in life reduces much of your positive energy.
Journaling has the power to change all of that. You can have an easy and painless outlet for your negative emotions just by jotting down a few notes on a piece of paper or in a personal book. Creating an internal dialogue with yourself, even if it's just using a journal as a way to "let it all out" and talk to someone (in this case yourself), will help you examine your feelings, see progress as you work through problems, and feel like you have more control over your life.
Here are some tips to help you get started:
Buy a journal. Yes, we know this sounds obvious, but it's still important! You can opt for a beautiful, hand-crafted notebook or a functional black-and-white. The appearance of your journal should inspire you to write. Reserve time to write. For some of you, this may be the hardest part. Try to set aside at least fifteen minutes a day. Even if it's during your lunch break, setting aside some time for yourself is essential for your well-being. Just start writing! Remember, this is not a graded project. Write about the first thing that pops into your head. Here are some topics to get you going: your dreams and ambitions, your family, events that happened during the day and how you're feeling and why.
Journaling is a fantastic way to relieve stress, give refuge to your emotions, and understand yourself better. All you need is a paper and a pen to get started!
