Ten Ways to Boost Your Spiritual Practice

And become happier and healthier
spiritual practice

Sometimes even the most patient of us can benefit from taking some time out to appreciate what life has to offer. Becoming more conscious of the world around us can do wonders for our happiness levels! Here are ten of our favorite ways to become more spiritually aware:

Appreciate your environment. It's pretty easy to forget to take time to smell the roses. But sometimes we just have to stop, take a look around, and realize that beauty is all around us. Taking the time to appreciate an expressive sunset or a breathtaking beach helps us to connect with our surroundings and become more conscious of the world around us.

Make gratitude a daily ritual. Take time every day to stop and be grateful to the universe. It is because of it all that you are here. What a gift!

Be flexible. Sure, routines help you feel safe and secure, but shaking things up a bit can help you to appreciate those spur-of-the-moment events that are sure to occur. When a positive surprise pops up, be sure to take advantage of it!

Learn from others. Spending more time with positive people helps you to become more insightful about your own life. Talking with a trusted spiritual leader or just a really good friend about life's little questions can really help you learn more about yourself.

Stay balanced. Sometimes your work can just overwhelm your life. Or you might have a hobby that consumes all of your energy. Either way, it's important to not let one aspect of your life dominate the rest. Take time to appreciate your friends, family, and yourself!

Get active. Activities like yoga, meditation, and tai chi help you to breathe, stay calm, and focus. They work wonders for clearing a cluttered spirit so you can really make the most out of your life.

Celebrate yourself. Celebrating your milestones and accomplishments helps you to appreciate yourself and the work other people do. You don't have to throw a big party to celebrate, you can treat yourself to a nice dinner or a night out with the girls. When you're good to yourself, you will notice other people will be good to you too!

Be positive. When people have positive intentions, they are more likely to have something good happen to them than someone who goes about their day with negative thoughts. When you are upbeat and positive, good things will naturally occur.

Embrace your creative juices. By taking an acting class, doing some pottery, or even finger-painting with your child, you can teach yourself to think outside the box. Imagination and creative thinking are great ways to boost your spiritual awareness.

Visualize! By visualizing what you want in life or what you hope to attain, you can make your goals much more real and accessible. Commit to changing your life for the better and don't forget to pencil it in!

Life is a journey! Grow, experience and enjoy each and every day by expanding your spiritual awareness. Share the ways you grow your spiritual awareness by leaving a comment here!

I keep a daily journal....have done it on and off for a few years now. It has kept me focused on the good things of life and the good moments rather than on the "not so good times". I pray AND praise my Lord Jesus for His unending grace and love. I have a devotional by Joyce Myers. and I read it daily, first thing in the morning and last thing before I go to bed. I read The Word of God and that helps me to see and feel the good that is ours just for the asking. I appreciate the faith I have, it makes me see life as a gift to cherish.

These are great ways to becoming happier and healthier, spiritually! I multi-task daily at work but I have reminders around my desk about who I belong to. Stuff like 'I receive Your Grace' and 'Help me to trust You' and 'I want to know You'. So when work starts consuming me, I look at my reminders and remember that I am a child of God and what a wonderful blessing!

I think one of the things that has helped me most, is being out where I board my horse. Animals tend to be in the present & watching him & his pasture mate interacting, & being non verbal myself while I am there, helps me to be more aware of who I am rather than trying to be what someone else wants me to be. Horses keep you honest - they know when you are faking who you are!

What a wonderful article. These are all things which I plan to make an effort to do much more often. Thanks for making my day a positive one.

After reading this, I realized that I have not been nurturing my spiritual side. It's lacking a lot these days due to the housing market. As an investor I got stuck holding four houses that have forced me to just about go under. It's quite difficult to stay up when so much around you is causing you financial duress!! But, thank you!!!

I like all of the ideas you had, another one that lifts me up is doing some random act of kindness. It is even better if you can do it anonymously.

I find that going to a park, sitting on a hill, if possible where you can feel every breeze, hear the leaves on the trees russele, swaying branches. I listen sometimes to calm music, maybe nature sounds.
Close my eyes ad clear my mind, and hear my body, hear what nature has to show me. Sometimes
I need to regulate my breathing, but I am in a quiet spot and can fel all of the stress, trouble, frustrations of life slowly leave my body.

I've always believed that to grow and learn you must continue to question life daily, and committ yourself to keeping an open mnd. I am a student of life. I have a child-like enthusiasm for learning new things, and always love sharing the experience with others. After all life is a journey and I will always cherish the special moments with the ones I love. By sharing your knowledge you open up a whole new world to others and make then feel more confortable in expressing thier true-selves.

I really enjoy the feedback from your article here. I agree that we should be more positive and leave the the negative to people who don't seem to care. Right now I am experiencing loss of job for about 2 years, 6 months; my oldest daughter just walked out on her kids, (my grandchildren); and unemployment does just not get it for me. I want to work, because it helps me to cope and I like what I do. As I read more of these comments it does help allittle and I know I can carry on in my life.

Good Morning, I'm glad to be a part of this website, thank you. I'm a very positive person, whom others call"spiritual". I'm very grateful for all I've got, and have not. I'm happy 99.09% of the time and usually feel like it's going to be a great day because I awoke breathing! I've just been diagnosed with the 3rd of lifelong diseases!!! Whoopee!!! I'm not at my best right now but I'm trying - yeah everyone's patience, I'm sure! Anyway, I'm trying to look at the bright side of life, there's always good out there and in my heart. Love your article, came at a great time! Thank you, sincerely, Charlotte

I read the ten steps and it feels good to know that positive thinking is a key elements that I so much require. I'm an emotional
person....so anything such as this will keep me focused and take me to another level. I will print this out so that I may reflect daily.

Thank you for this article. I will print it out and refer to it daily to help keep me in a positive mindset. I have a tendency to drift back into a negative place - I am there now, but will begin my journey out of this pit this evening. I will make tomorrow a better day. I was especially touched by the comments made by Lauryn Michelle Lavoie - 02 Aug, 2008 - 17:53:52. Most times I see things similarly to the way you do. It would be wonderful to share life's experiences with someone of a like mindset. If you would like to chat sometime, my email is Joyce120@msn.com. Thank you, and God bless.
