The Lure of September

New beginnings, reflections and goals
Susan Weiner

I spent Labor Day weekend with my family and enjoyed a little bonding time with my nine year old niece. We took a walk into town and enjoyed some ice cream, spent time organizing her school supplies and, of course, I got a fashion show to see the new outfits she picked out for this fall.

This weekend reminded me how September used to be a time for new beginnings - reconnecting with school friends, purchasing all new clothes because you out grew the old ones, doodling on your loose-leaf notebook, the new fall TV season. It also made me realize it is time to set new goals so I can better establish my priorities, stay organized and motivated.

Some of these goals will certainly be fitness and nutrition based (the holidays are right around the corner!), while others will help me set direction in both my personal and professional life. Working on this list is one of my priorities for this week, and I hope to have a list completed in time for next weeks MindBodySanctuary newsletter!

In the meantime, I would love to hear feedback from all of you. Do you set goals for yourself? If so, what are some of the positive changes you will be focusing on through the remainder of this year?

Train hard; stay strong.

Peace.

Susan

I am going thru a bad relationship right now. The person just thinks that hes not even the reason at all for us (might) breaking up after 13 years. he has been very verbally abusive. Saying all kinds of things that I beleive is really happening to this woman that he so-called state that hes been talking too. And the more that he talks about her; the more I dont want to even be around him any longer. What do think? I love this man so much there has been so much turmoil over the years that I just cant take it any more.

YOU KNOW THIS WAS GREAT. I HAVE BEEN FEELING REALLY MOTIVATED AND ALWAYS SEEM TO THIS TIME OF YEAR, BUT NEVER REALLY PUT THE TWO AND TWO TOGETHER. IT IS TRUE THAT THIS IS THE TIME OF YEAR THAT IS REALLY A NEW YEAR TO ME, BECAUSE THIS IS WHEN WE WOULD ALL START OVER INTO THE NEW YEAR AT SCHOOL. THANKS FOR THE INSPIRATION.

My goals for the remainder of this year are to keep up with my recent lifestyle changes to get strong physically, mentally and spiritually. These changes include going vegan, daily walking / yoga and daily meditation.

I recently went off Cymbalta after taking it for 3 years. Now I am completely detoxing / purifying my body by making these lifestyle changes.

Princess, You should stay away from people like that if he's verbally abusive he will most likely turn physical I know because I have been beaten numerous times in the past by Men I finally found a good one.

For me, fall is a time of melancholy: a combination of endings and beginnings; so many memories of my kids starting another school year with all the accompanying routines that Susan mentions. Now I see my oldest grandchild start 1st grade this year, and I can still remember my own "fall beginnings" at school from elementary right through college years. I understand what you mean about examining priorities, what an opportunity to start a-new, re-do, and organize life, work, family, fitness and spirit!

I actually was never a goal setter. I always lived day to day, no plans or anything. Now that I am into setting goals everyhting falls into place. I found a better job and my relationship has even gotten better! My goals for the remainder of the year are to stay focused and to keep my priorities in order.

Something in common I hope to finish my degree in Human Services by years end..a goal i've set is to complete this and move on to my next level. While striving to stay holistically well. To princess (when the things he says to you shouldn't come from the mouth of a man who says he loves you)l i've been where you are after a 13 year marriage of mostly bad times it was the ending of it that helped me to learn to focus on me and my happiness...after all if i don't who will? you deserve happiness, peace and joy in your life...think about it

Every day is a time of new changes for me. I have been a widow for 5 months. I have to remind myself daily that everything I do is for me. There is no longer a we. I am taking it one day at a time, minute to minute, second to second. I was a we for 38 years. I have been a mother for 37 years. I have been a grandmother for 13 years. I have not been just me for a very long time. I missed me. I love me. I can take care of me. Have a happy everyday. Do not forget your me.

Hello there, Yeah I have some goals
that I need to establish this year. first one is to attain my drivers license. next start disconnecting myself with all those fake blood sucking associates, in other words tuffing up. then in december I plan to marry my girl. after I find time when i'm not working, I will begin to work out again.

I'm really impressed and inspired by your goals! ALL of your goals!!

Princess, it really sounds as if you've answered your own question. Change is scary but sometimes necessary. No one deserves to be in an abusive relationship.

Charlene, my condolences on your loss. I wish my mother had your attitude when my father passed away. It certainly makes you a strong role model for your children and grandchildren.

Lynne, I found your sentiment very touching. Hopefully it is more about beginnings than endings.

Tania,

There are many certifications that allow for at-home study. Google "Fitness and Nutrition Certifications" and you'll come across a good list of potential programs.

September is actually my B-day month, so for me it's kind of like a clean sheet of paper. I always try to be a better me than the year before.
