What We're Thankful For

Our readers share their stories of gratitude
gratitude
  • I am thankful that I don't smoke as heavily due to leaving a husband and another man behind to start afresh. I am thankful for the woman who invited me to live with her, so that I would not have to live on the streets. I am thankful to have a relationship with both my mom and my daughter no matter how meager the relationships really are. I am thankful to be alive considering that we live in such a chaotic world. I am also thankful for my pet as he brings me happiness on a daily basis. I am thankful for having the honor of living on this planet.
  • I was able to ask for a miracle from our heavenly father and it was granted. A restaurant owner 's little girl had a brain tumor, which was affecting her eyesight, and the doctors were able to remove it and now she is home doing well. I have been without work for six months with no health care for my family and I'm thankful all is with with us.
  • I am thankful for my husband who is also my best friend, and he has been for almost 25 years. We have been there for each other in sickness and in health. We enjoy many of the same things and also attend worship together every week.
  • I am thankful for my second chance. As many of you know divorce is not fun but once the dust settles it allows for a person to start over and have a chance to live the life of their dreams! This is a very precious gift and I thank God for this opportunity to find my soul mate and to fulfill many desires that were left empty for so long.
  • I'm very thankful and truly blessed that God has brought someone special into my life. Just when I thought things couldn't get any worse with the loss of my job and not being able to make ends meet and feeling sorry for myself. God has sent me my soul mate, he is truly inspirational, kind, loving, and devoted to me and my kids. I welcome him with open arms into my life. My kids are my pride and joy and I couldn't give them things that they were use to having. God has truly looked over me and my household and it is a true blessing and I know that I will find a job soon.
  • I am thankful for my entire life. I haven't had the easiest life, but I learned a lot of valuable lessons. I know I've made my share of mistakes raising my children, (I have 3 ages: 23, 20, & 16), and have avoided making similar mistakes as my parents, but made a few "new" ones myself. I hope, (and pray), my children do the same for their children. Then eventually, the "dysfunctional family" will end. Some of my lessons were hard, painful, and tough ones to had to learn, (starting when I was 13), but I know God has given "my life" for a reason, taught the lessons for a reason. Though I may not understand his reasonings behind those lessons, I'm sure I will eventually. But as right now, I'm mostly thankful for still being alive, God never giving up on me, (always being by my side, and keeping me healthy, protected), and having filled with MANY blessings on my journey.
  • I'm grateful that three weeks ago my mom was diagnosed with stage 4, terminal brain cancer and three weeks later she was told she was cancer free from a second opinion. She has been in a war against cancer since 2006. She successfully had a stem cell transplant that cured her body of Lymphoma in 2007. Now in 2009, she beat brain cancer. I'm also grateful because I have lost all my financial and most of my material possessions three times. Yet, I've never gone hungry, or had to beg, or sleep on the street or in a shelter, and today I stand on the brink of super stardom as a recording artist. Find this hard to believe? Well my story, music and artist bio are on my website a Rozshepard.com. I believe in having an attitude of gratitude no matter what comes into your life because there is always somebody who has it worse than me. No matter how many times life knocked me down, I got up, dusted myself off and started again. It's a blessing to have life and strength. It's best to use it while you have it because there will come a time when you won't. But, that won't stop me either - I hope to leave a legacy of inspiration, persistence, diligence and determination to never give up that will continue on long after I'm gone.
  • I'm thankful for god letting me see another day everyday I wake up I say thank you god for letting me see another day I'm thankful for trees, birds children - everything God created, I'm thankful for my 9 kids. It's amazing. I have a rod in my back and god blessed me to carry 9 children, now I know that truly was a blessing, I'm thankful for everything.
  • I am thankful for my husband who is my best friend and my wonderful son who is my whole world! I am thankful for my family, which has gone through some very difficult times this l year. We have dealt with the loss of 2 loved ones and although it has affected us immensely, we have found a way to become closer.
  • What i am most thankful for are everyday that I have with my 2 dogs nilla and molly. nilla is 12 and molly is 9 years old. They are getting up there in years and every minute i have I have with them I am thankful.
  • I am so thankful for the gift of creativity.
  • If only we realized how rich we are, how much we buy into the things we need to be happy and healthy, when much of the rest of the world is war-ravaged, hungry, and ill, we would realize that we have much to be thankful for and much to share. In these hard times for Americans, I am still grateful that I do not have bombs barraging my neighborhood, that I have many supermarkets from which I can buy food, though not the variety I used to buy when I was employed, and that my loved ones are relatively safe.
I believe I have a future which many with HIV/AIDS do not believe. For my future, I am grateful. I also live in the present and am grateful for the opportunities to look for work and to hope.
On this day after the dreadful events at Fort Hood, I am grateful that the young men and women who survived have great medical care and the prayers for healing from many. I am grateful that I can pray anytime, anywhere, and chose my own faith.
The dollar may not be as strong as it was but Americans still give to causes. I am grateful for the help I have received while unemployed. I am also grateful for the time of reflection and the time I am able to give to my family while unemployed. Blessings come in many different disguises, we only have to recognize the wealth of the human spirit and the unending and unconditional love of God to see the blessings and to be grateful for them.
  • I thank God for giving me the opportunity to meet a very special friend, that brought hope to my life when the time could not be worst. My battle with menopause and the difficult side effects has been a long journey that definitely made significant changes in my life, but my friend has supported me along this way and for me this friendship has given me the strength to face all difficulties with a positive attitude and hope. I feel blessed for having this person in my life. I am also thankful for been able to express my thoughts in a place like MindBodySanctuary where I always find good advices and great information for those like me who cares about a healthy mind and body.

I am thankful to God that despite going through the pains of a break up, emotional and psychological torture 3 years ago which made me have so much resentment, bitterness and mistrust towards men in my life, God gave me the grace and peace to finally forgive the man I wholeheartedly trusted so much only to turn against me. All hope is not lost coz with gladness and joy in my heart, my life is encompassed in God's great love and with a lovely, God fearing and handsome man besides me on whose shoulder I lean on. God bless us as we look forward to greater things!

I am glad that God understands all of us and blesses us according to our needs and desires. God is always faithful despite all the difficult moments we could be going through.

I guess if it weren't for myself I would have no one else, other than my angels to inspire and encourage when I am down and out. As is almost all the time. Their love and guidance is what I will give thanks for this Thanksgiving. going further, it's been over a year and a half since I have been homeless and acast out into the mean streets by a tortuorous and evil slumlord who only deserves Jail. A long jail term, mind you. Will he ever ask for forgiveness? Will he ever say thanks for all the many blessings that God bestowed upon him and his family, though God didnn't need to but did just the same. If I eat this thanksgiving, well though I may not, that may be a thanks I will give. Will I have any money? Probably not. Will I have a warm and safe place to sleep I sure hope so. will my relatives reach out and try to get in touch with me. I sure hope not. With their constant abuse, hatred and abandonment of me, I would be crazy if I said I wish to hear from them. so folks when you sit at your turkey, dressing and cranberry thanksgiving treats, in the warmth of your home and in your own safety zone. Please say a prayer for those who do without, even during the holidays.
